(bet. 5th Ave. & Madison)</strong></p> <p dir="ltr"><u><span id="docs-internal-guid-83d2a8d2-b5c1-a8ad-8339-e234fa3a8080">Paul Steely White, Transportation Alternatives, Executive Director </span></u></p> <p dir="ltr"><span>In his presentation: "The Advocates: Priorities for 2017", Paul Steely White will talk about how Transportation Alternatives will continue promoting the expansion of New York City's network of protected bike lanes, as part of the broader effort to watchdog Mayor de Blasio's Vision Zero initiative to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries by 2024. TransAlt will continue to call on City Hall to invest more to redesign the most dangerous streets, and bring pedestrian safety improvements, better cycling infrastructure and bike share to more communities across the five boroughs. In addition, Paul will possibly address the status of the Verrazano Bridge Bike Path proposal, as a continuum of the Harbor Ring Connection, which TA has supported. </span></p> <p dir="ltr"><u><span>Cyndi Steiner, NJBWC, Executive Director </span></u></p> <p dir="ltr"><span>Cyndi plans to discuss the state of advocacy in NJ and several bills NJBWC would like to work on. She will describe our Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee process and the role NJBWC plays in it. In 2011, Mr. White was selected to receive the Rockefeller Foundation's Jane Jacobs Medal, which recognizes those whose creative uses of the urban environment build a more diverse, dynamic, and equitable city. Advocacy wins under Cyndi’s direction include the Complete Streets rebuild of RT 35 after Hurricane Sandy, the ongoing access to the George Washington Bridge during the cable replacement project (partner with TA and NYCC), new bike lane policy for Monmouth County at the Jersey Shore, addition of a new chapter on bicycle safety added to the state’s Driver’s Ed manual, organized 4 NJ Bike & Walk Summits, and creation and launch of the Bike Depots in New Jersey, where five are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2017. She has also helped launch more than a handful of local advocacy organizations, including the Asbury Park Complete Streets Coalition, Bike &amp; Walk Millburn, Bike & Walk Montclair and others.</p> <p style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-bottom: 10px; color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;">Cyndi is a road, cyclocross and mountain bike racer going back to 2003; she won the 2008 NJ Women's Category Four Cup Series and the 2008 State Time Trial Championship. She also placed third in the 2013 women’s Medio Fondo NJ and second in her age group in the 2013 NJ Highlands Gran Fondo. In 2014, she served as the Grand Marshal for the Gran Fondo NJ due to her role with the NJBWC. In 2016, she placed third in the H2H Mountain Bike Series, Women Cat 3 40+.
