<p>GPS route is 2009 variation, differs only in that there is no turn onto Beattie off Twin Arches.</p><p>Metro North to the start in Garrison and to return from Beacon: bring your Bike Pass.</p><p>6300-7400’ vertical gain. Hilly (listed on cue sheet) on way out. Rolling on return. Lots of climbs: 7 Lakes Dr, Hogback, Mt. Peter & climb out of Port Jervis. Optional bailout from Warwick to Goshen but train from Port Jervis unreliable. Fast return to Beacon if westerly winds are blowing. Ride not advised if strong Northeasterly winds on return. This route is best done in the time of year with lots of daylight. <strong><em>Beacon-Newburgh Bridge bike path closes at dusk/sundown!</em></strong></p><p>Water available at carousel at Bear Mtn and Tiorati Circle.</p><p>The 2013 cue sheet takes a right off Twin Arches onto Beattie just after the railroad underpass. Due to distance, Orange County is superficially reached by out and back rides from our region. But NJ Transit and Metro North allow New York riders access to the entire region during warmer days with long daylight. Rolling, black-muck farm land of Pine Island, historic, tony 19th century Goshen, deeply-forested Greenwood Lake, tri-state Port Jevis on the Delaware, and Pine Bush, gateway to the Gunks, represent some of the diverse aspects of this region. A nice aspect of cycling Orange County is getting a boost from prevailing westerlies on the return leg heading east to railroad stations on the eastern side of the Hudson. Am I the only person who sees the profile of a bear's head in the outline of this county?</p>
