Route begins and ends at 1st Avenue & 59th Street.
In the author's words:
The route crosses the East River twice, Sunnyside Yards and rail lines twice, and pieces of the Newtown Creek 7 times, or 8 if you count the Kosciuszko Bridge twice since it's a roundtrip on a GREAT new bike path.
At mile 2.5 there's a large community garden that has a Portapotty on the Davis Court side. At the Brooklyn end of the K Bridge is a nice little plaza with benches (but no water or toilets) - that's the turnaround point.
On the Borden Ave. Bridge, mile 2.8, I like the sidewalk on the north side because it is a boardwalk and has very interesting views. After you cross the bridge, you cross over to the right side of Borden Ave. for a couple blocks before making the left onto 30th Place.
There is also a historical marker for a former bridge that's worth checking out at the end of 58th Rd at 9.7.
Most of this is through highly industrial yet low-traffic areas with all kinds of interesting scenery and juxtapositions.
Who would think you could cross so many bridges in just 17 miles?!
