You can tie "The Knot" many ways. To deserve the name "The Knot" a ride must come at the crossroads of Tweed Blvd and Clausland Mountain Rd from every direction. This route does not technically achieve this but it takes in the added climbs of Old Mountain/Christian Herald/Mountain View and Schuyler Rd. There's plenty of climbing here.

Due to road closures: Bull Pond/Fredericksburg and Mine Torne Rd, this ride now ends in Beacon; not as brutal as it originally was.

Rt 218/Storm King Hwy appears closed as of this editing date, if so, climb out via 9W north at juction of 218.

Don't forget a train pass. Mere mortals should count on 2 recovery days...

Start: NJ side of GW Bridge. [Add 7.2 miles from Boathouse]

Lunch stop changed to David's Bagels in Mt Ivy.

The "no lunch" variation (62 miles, 4400", difficulty: 106) goes up Rossman/Thiells Mt Ivy Rd/Letchworth Village Rd to Willow Grove, forgoing David's Bagels and the not-so-bike-friendly Rt 202 west to it, then includes Tiorati Brook Rd.

Requires return by MetroNorth from Garrison. Metro North bike pass needed.

You can always eat at the deli in Garrison or the Depot in Cold Spring after the ride.

A diagonal traverse of Putnam County and back. You will definitely know you aren't in Kansas. JZ: "I removed the CT part of the standard Putnam Ramble. I also took out Mooney Hill and Farmers's Mills and replaced it with 311, Luddingtonville Rd, Horse Pound and Nichols to 301, something a bit different."

Check Metro North schedule for correct times. Don't forget your bike pass.

Lots of climbing. Beautiful country roads, some unpaved.

A basic introduction to this area.

Cycle friendly firehouse at 8.9 miles. Deli at 11.3 miles.

Caution as shoulders narrow quickly and blind curves.

Notes on well-documented map.
