Please join us on a ride to the seventh annual Riverdale Riverfest, a free festival celebrating the Hudson River and supporting the proposed Bronx Greenway link.  NYCC has two listed rides to this Riverfest, a C12 and a B15.  The Festival is scheduled to take place from 12 to 6:30 p.m., on the campus of the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale (of course!).  There will be free valet bicycle parking handled by Transportation Alternatives so the bikes will be guarded as we enjoy the afternoon.

The historic sailing ships – Mystic Whaler and Pioneer -- will be available for public sails.  You must sign up on the Riverfest web site as soon as possible if you are interested in a 1.5 hour sail ($25 for adults).  Sail times are 2:15, 3:30, and 4:15pm.  (We probably won’t make it in time for the earlier sailings mentioned on the Riverfest web site.)  If you plan to sail, you might want to bring sandals, sunblock, and a cap.  Or, if you’re not interested in sailing, you can hang out and enjoy the festivities.

The Festival will have varied stage performers, exhibits, trinkets for sale, yummy-sounding food as well as a medieval renaissance battle, and loads of environmental/river-oriented, and just-plain-fun activities and exhibits.  And, a real highlight – there will be a featured band – “Orleans” -- performing from 5-6:30pm.  Do you remember “Still the One”?  If you weren’t born yet when they were first famous, we are sure that you will nevertheless enjoy their music!

Check out the festival website at www.riverdaleriverfest.org for more details and to see how you can make a tax-deductible financial contribution to help sustain this wonderful, volunteer-run community event if you feel like it.  (A contribution is not required.)  We are looking forward to a fabulous day.

At least one of the leaders will stay till the end of the concert at 6:30 or so and ride back with anyone else who has stayed.  One leader may leave earlier – perhaps around 5pm – with people who want to leave earlier.  We will also provide directions to the #1 subway (if it’s running) and a nearby Metro North railroad station in case you want to, on your own, leave earlier or not ride back.

A reminder: please bring two water bottles, a spare inner tube and pump that fit your tires in case you get a flat, sunscreen, and snack food.  Remember to inflate your tires on Saturday to the amount identified on the rim and make sure your bike is in good working order.  We think we’re fabulous leaders but we’re not necessarily the most fabulous mechanics!
