<p><a href="/SIGs">Back to The 2015 SIG & STS</a></p> <p><strong>Online registration opens February 11</strong></p> <p><strong style="line-height: 1.5em;"><a href="http://nycc.org/help/sig-registration">Need help with registration? Instructions are here.</a></strong></p> <p><strong style="font-family: Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; line-height: 18px; text-align: center;"><a href="http://nycc.org/sigsts-Feb2015">Details & RSVP for the February "All About The SIG & STS" Club Meeting are here</a></strong></p> <p style="text-align: center;"><img alt="" src="/sites/default/files/r-sts-2015.jpg" style="width: 750px; height: 314px;"></p> <p><strong>R-STS</strong> is a 10-ride series for NYCC B-Riders, running Saturdays March 7 through May 9. </p> <p>Intended for SIG graduates and comparably experienced cyclists, the R-STS seeks to expand riders' horizons beyond <span style="line-height: 1.5em;">the Piermont-Nyack corridor. The program will feature two events hosted by </span><a href="http://lirando.com/" style="line-height: 1.5em;">Long Island Randonneurs</a><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">: the Jones </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Beach 100K on 3/28 and the Ronkonkoma 200K on 5/9.</span></p> <p>Consistent with its <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randonneuring">randonneur</a> theme, the series will encourage safety, preparation, navigational skills, knowledge of <span style="line-height: 1.5em;">bikes and gear, efficiency, self reliance, situational awareness and leadership. Social skills always appreciated. </span></p> <p>Space is limited to twelve (12) riders. Each participant will be expected to help co-lead two (2) rides. </p> <p><strong>Riding</strong></p> <p>We follow B-SIG riding protocols for group riding, but not close formation pacelines. We expect the groups to break <span style="line-height: 1.5em;">out into slower (15-16) and faster (17-18) as well as individuals.</span></p> <p>The R-STS does <u>not</u> have a No Drop policy. If you go off the front or back, you're expected to be able to navigate on <span style="line-height: 1.5em;">your own. </span></p> <p><strong><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Routes</span></strong></p> <p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Distances will progress from 45-125 miles and climbing from 30-70' per mile. Some hard pack. Routes will pass </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">through Suffolk, Putnam-Dutchess and Orange Counties in NY and Fairfield-Litchfield in CT. You'll need to obtain a </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Metro North/Long Island Railroad <a href="http://web.mta.info/mnr/html/mnrbikepermit.htm">bike pass</a>.</span></p> <p><strong>Gear</strong></p> <p dir="ltr">A <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclo-cross_bicycle">cyclo-cross</a> or touring bike would be ideal. Wider tires (25-32mm). Some storage (handlebar or seatpost). Fenders (permanent or removeable). No aero-bars. <a href="http://nycc.org/message-board/cheap-effective-lighting/73305">Lighting</a> and <a href="http://www.rusa.org/cgi-bin/storedept_GF.pl?catid=2">reflective gear</a> will be required for the Ronkonkoma 200K. </p> <p>Deep gearing is advised -- particularly if you're a B15-16. Either a <a href="http://www.compasscycle.com/images/cranks_rh_triple.jpg">triple chainring</a> up front or a <a href="https://sram-cdn-pull-zone-gsdesign.netdna-ssl.com/cdn/farfuture/_iGHq8u5wif0ICZX80dTzMywLhi9ZXePBdqkmiuo8lI/mtime:1372788212/sites/default/files/images/products/cassettes/2012-sram_powerglide_990_cassette-large-en.jpg">mountain cassette</a> in the rear. Better to have and not need, than need and not have.</p> <p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><strong>Series Organizer/Questions</strong>: </span><a href="mailto:soupstone@mindspring.com?subject=question%20about%20R-STS" style="line-height: 1.5em;">Neile Weissman</a></p>
