NYCC November 9 club meeting - Ken Podziba of Bike New York and the League American Bicyclists!

View

Join us at the NYCC November 9 club meeting for a Conversation with Ken Podziba of Bike New York and the League American Bicyclists!

Ken has spent the last decade focused on expanding access to cycling, in particular among urban youth and underserved communities, and has much to say about the future of road, commuter and utility cycling. We'll meet on the third floor of Connolly’s Pub , 121 West 45th Street (bet. 6th/Ave. and B’way), with plenty of room to enjoy an evening together safely, and a live webcast via Zoom.  (And if you missed out of the free Pearl Izumi winter cycling swag given out at the last club meeting, we hear there's more to give out on November 9!)

Ken Podziba is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Bike New York, a nonprofit organization that produces the TD Five Boro Bike Tour, the world’s largest charitable bike ride, and Bike Expo New York, the country’s most-attended consumer bike show.  Bike New York's education program annually teaches more than 10,000 students how to ride safely and confidently. Under Ken's leadership, Bike New York has established nine Community Bicycle Education Centers in all five boroughs and developed summer camp programs for underserved children, after-school programming, and multilingual bi, e education classes. Ken is rightly proud of the tremendous growth of Bike New York’s education program - the largest of its kind in the country - and the success of its recently launched Bike Path program, which trains formerly incarcerated New Yorkers to become bike mechanics.  Prior to joining Bike New York, Ken served as the New York City Sports Commissioner for 12 years, and he also serves on the board of directors of Achilles International, National Sports Marketing Network, and UJA’s Sports for Youth Committee, as the Chair of the Board of the League of American Bicyclists.
