NYCC October Meeting: Aliya Barnwell, Tuesday October 12, Connolly's Pub

View

Join us for the return of the NYCC monthly club member meetings to Connolly’s, with speaker Aliya Barnwell!  Doors will open at our old stomping ground, the third floor of Connolly’s Pub , 121 West 45th Street (bet. 6th/Ave. and B’way), at 6 pm, with plenty of room to enjoy an evening together safely and a live webcast via Zoom.  Raffle prizes generously supplied by Neversecond Performance Nutrition.

Aliya Barnwell is youth program director and founder of the only youth road-bike scholarship program in NYC, Ride Up Grades, and is a current writer for VeloNews focusing on cycling kit. She got her start in cycling instruction with former Black Girls Do Bike NYC Chapter Director and Current Bike Mayor Courtney Williams, she has since been certified as a League of American Bicyclists instructor, worked for Bike New York and I Challenge Myself and Ostroy, and has appeared in Bicycling. Her youth bike program focuses on making road cycling accessible by donating equipment and race funding and to cyclists 14-23. She will talk about both interests: both what to look for in a good kit throughout a range of temperatures, and the role gear plays in access to the sport; the intersectionality of how cyclists are seen, and how we collectively can change that.
