Program:

Lena Tibebe is an Ethiopian-born educator in the public school system, and a lifelong cycling enthusiast.  In the midst of last summer's pandemic and movement for racial justice, Lena founded the Ride to DC, a diverse group ride from New York to Washington D.C. timed to arrive on the anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I have a Dream" address. The ride was recognized as the longest bike protest in U.S. history, and in August 2021, another 250-person ride will roll 306 miles to D.C. to deliver its message of diversity and justice.  Inspired to incite change in her community, Lena's mission is to diversify cycling by creating spaces where fresh and seasoned cyclists regardless of race, age, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity & expressions, disability, economic status, and other diverse backgrounds can come together to share multiday bike tours. In addition to her role with the Ride to D.C. and other volunteer work, Lena serves as a member of the board of Bike New York.  Join us for a discussion with Lena about how we can enrich our experience by diversifying cycling.
