Take the train to Cold Spring and climb Bear Mountain while the day is still cool.  Then ride back to Manhattan on a lovely route that uses 9W only when absolutely necessary. Deli stops in Tompkins Cove and West Nyack (with an ice cream shoppe for those who care to indulge).  Bring plenty of fluids and snack food. Water and restrooms at the Bear Mtn Carousel (vending machines take $1 bills).

This ride can be done by strong C riders, but endurance is required - there are no bailouts.

Lunch stop changed to David's Bagels in Mt Ivy.

The "no lunch" variation (62 miles, 4400", difficulty: 106) goes up Rossman/Thiells Mt Ivy Rd/Letchworth Village Rd to Willow Grove, forgoing David's Bagels and the not-so-bike-friendly Rt 202 west to it, then includes Tiorati Brook Rd.

Requires return by MetroNorth from Garrison. Metro North bike pass needed.

You can always eat at the deli in Garrison or the Depot in Cold Spring after the ride.

A long meandering route that tackles just about every climb between GWB and Beacon with flexibility for distances and speeds.

The ride usually ends in Cold Spring; Beacon is a bit over the top. NOTE: Rte. 218 over Storm King Mtn. (from Washington Gate to Cornwall) may be closed.

68 mile option to Ossining RR Station and 74 miles to Tarrytown RR Station on original cue sheet.

Possibly, one long B ride, especially if you omit Perkins.

The Ride With GPS route and cue sheet bypasses some of the most egregious sections of this route that have developed since its creation: Rt 9W from Piermont to Nyack, and Rt 9 from the Peekskill causeway to Main St.

Options to bypass AV descent and Long Mtn and Perkins climbs, but why?

Metro North rail pass needed for return from Peekskill.

Water available at the carousel at Bear Mtn, before and on the same side as the Bear Mtn Inn, on the left just past the Bear Mtn traffic circle below the hairpin.
