After we leave Astoria we cruise through Jackson Heights and catch the Flushing Bay Promenade with a wonderful view of Flushing Bay and LaGuardia Airport.  Our ride to Beechhurst is through picturesque neighborhoods to Little Bay Park greenway with a spectacular view of the waterfront beneath the Throgs Neck Bridge.

This is an interesting ramble through the Bronx from the Central Park Boathouse via Randall’s Island connector to City Island with return to Manhattan via the High Bridge. The route takes advantage of many greenways through Soundview, Pugsley and Pelham Bay Parks. The loop around the SUNY Maritime Campus beneath the Throg’s Neck Bridge is spectacular.

This is a 30 mile ride that starts at QueensBoro Bridge (or the Ed Koch, if you must) and explores beautiful Queens waterfront.  Hate riding around LaGuardia airport to get to Flushing Bay Promenade?  This route takes you through scenic Jackson Heights on a bike lane.  No more Ditmars Boulevard and dodging cars coming out of LaGuardia.  We ride all the way through Flushing Meadows/Corona Park and through Forest Hills Gardens to look at spectacular homes.  We cruise through Forest Park.

The ride starts at the Queensborough Bridge and we head over the Kosciuszko Bridge bike path into Greenpoint.   Williamsburg and the distinctive historic sections of Bedford-Stuyvesant are next, then a pit stop in Canarsie Park before catching the Shore Parkway Greenway westbound.  On the way to Bay Ridge we pass through Sheepshead Bay and Dyker Heights.  Our lunch stop is in Bay Ridge on a street where the storefront signs are in Arabic and where you sometimes see women in burkas.  The Yemen Café (yemencafe.com) at 5th Avenue & Ovington has a tasty,

Take a trip to the formal gardens at Untermyer Park in North Yonkers. The route takes you up the scenic South County Trailway. Bring your lunch for a picnic at the Gardens. (Not many places to pick up food near the Gardens.) Beware of a few steep hills, both up and down, shortly before and after the stop.  The route starts on the Upper East Side and goes over the Willis Ave. Bridge - create your own route to the start or take a different route to the Grand Concourse. Route ends at the 242nd St. stop on the #1 train. Add 10 miles riding back into Midtown Manhattan.

A short ride around Staten Island to see where ships go to die. You'll also see a bit of history as you pass thru historic Richmond Town.  Then you'll glide past the beach on Father Capodanno Blvd and the Franklin Roosevelt Boardwalk.  Bring snack food or stop at a deli to have a picnic on the boardwalk.
