This is a 3-day self-contained tour, staying at a motel in Monroe and doing a loop ride on Day 2 to the Storm King Arts Center. The cycling is lovely, with the exception of one unavoidable busy stretch on Day 1, and the cultural expedition is fun & enlightening. Storm King Arts Center is a 500 acre outdoor museum featuring sculptures and landscape art. https://stormking.org/ There's a cafe on the grounds for lunch and a rack to lock the bikes.

Memorial Day Weekend in the Bershires is a club favorite, but why not take an extra day off and make it a real adventure. Leave on Thursday and go half-way, staying in a motel or B & B overnight. Then ride the rest of the way on Friday and meet up with everyone else in Sheffield or Great Barrington. I've put together several options so that any level of rider can do this.

If you want to start doing self-contained touring but want to start small, here's the perfect bike overnight. Day 1 is quite easy, using the South & North County and Putnam Trailways to just above Brewster (Sears Corner). It's 55 miles and 2200 vertical feet. Day 2 is more challenging (but shorter - about 42 miles and 2900 vertical feet) with more climbing and several steeper sections, but it goes past beautiful lakes and through state forests. Just make sure you have low gears. Since you're just doing one overnight at a motel, you won't need to pack a lot.
