Ride starts and ends at the Statue of Eleanor Roosevelt at Riverside Drive & W. 72nd St. Although it uses several greenways and bike paths, it is not a flat ride and there are a couple of short, steep hills. But don't let that intimidate you. It's a lovely route through parts of New York City you don't normally ride through. Lunch is at Johnny's Wharf at the end of City Island. Ice cream can be had on the way out of town at Lickety-Split.

Just as Eskimos have several dozen words for snow, New Yorkers, who live in a crazy quilt of ethnic enclaves, have almost as many words for dumplings: Dim sum; gyoza; kibbeh; wonton; varenyky, pierogi, shumai—hey, ravioli are dumplings, as are gnocchi.  And investigating the cultural variety of dumplings by bicycle is easy.

Part of Claire and Linda's famous Dumpling Rides series, this route takes you though Queens neighborhoods, various parks, on bike paths & protected bike lanes, with a stop at the Kissena Velodrome. Lunch on dumplings at Galaxy Dumpling in Flushing. Great winter ride, as there are numerous subway bails if your tootsies start to freeze.

Ride thru Brooklyn neighborhoods on quiet streets, then tour thru southern Queens shoreline neighborhoods (how many marinas can you count?). Cross the bridge thru the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to the Rockaways for a yummy dumpling lunch at Uma's.  Return across the Marine Pkwy Bridge to Prospect Park for the #2 or 3 train home. There are other bailouts (including the ferry from the Rockaways) if you've eaten too many dumplings at lunch.

This is another of Claire and Linda's famous Dumpling rides.  Great anytime, but especially wonderful for those cold winter months where only short rides will do.

Part of Claire and Linda's famous Dumpling Rides series, this takes an interesting route thru Bronx neighborhoods and parks, with a lunch stop in the Bronx version of Little Italy. After all, what are ravioli, tortellini and gnocchi if not dumplings by another name! Route officially ends at a subway (either the D train or the #4) shortly after lunch, figuring you'll be too stuffed to want to ride all the way home. But go ahead...knock yourself out...create your own route home for an extra 10-15 miles.
