A few words from our guest speaker: "I fell in love with the Tour de France on a hot July day in 1963. It was my first full day of riding my bike in France on a trans-Europe ride to eastern Switzerland. I picnicked on a grassy embankment on the road between Roubaix and Rouen, from where I watched the 50th edition of the Tour come by on this early stage. The Irishman Shay Elliott was wearing the yellow jersey, prominent at the head of the peloton, working for his St. Raphael team leader Jacques Anquetil. After that initial view of the Tour, I headed south to watch the race every couple of days until it reached the Pyrenees."….to be continued.
