Getting out of Manhattan via bike friendly public transportation
- Subways: You can take your bike on all NYC subway lines. This allows you to cut out the urban miles and start or end your ride close to the border of Westchester or Nassau Counties or the George Washington Bridge. While there are no hard & fast rules about bikes on the subway, please be considerate and don’t try to squeeze onto a crowded car. It’s best not to use this service during weekday rush hours. Try to arrange your bike so it doesn’t block any seats. Some stations have elevators; you can find them here: https://new.mta.info/accessibility/stations. If you take your bike onto an escalator please hold it firmly and be considerate of other riders.
